About ThrowBone

We're a small, independent team who believe the web is at its best when people share what they know freely — a recipe that actually works, a fix that saves your afternoon, an explanation that finally makes something click. No paywall. No catch. Just one person helping another.

ThrowBone exists to keep that web alive by making it easy to say thank you — with a quarter, a dollar, whatever feels right — to the people who wrote the page that helped you.

Why we built this

Somewhere along the way, "free" content came to mean "content wrapped in ads." Pop-ups, auto-playing video, pages that reflow three times before you can read a sentence, and tracking that follows you from site to site. It's exhausting — and it's made the reading experience worse for everyone.

So people installed ad blockers. We understand the instinct completely; we use them too. But there's a quiet cost: the blocker doesn't hurt the ad network nearly as much as it hurts the individual who wrote the article. The hobbyist, the teacher, the tinkerer sharing hard-won knowledge for free — they end up with nothing.

That's the gap we want to close. If ads are a bad deal for readers and ad blocking is a bad deal for creators, there should be a third option: let the people who found something genuinely useful choose to tip the person who made it.

How ThrowBone is different

Voluntary, always. Nobody is charged for reading. A bone is offered because a reader wants to, never because a page demands it.
Revocable until you pay. Pledges accumulate and you can remove any of them before settling up — no questions asked. Generosity shouldn't come with buyer's remorse.
No ads. No tracking-for-profit. No selling you. We make our tiny living from the service itself, not from your attention or your data.
The money goes to the creator. We keep just 0.5% — half a cent on the dollar — to run ThrowBone. The rest is theirs.
Honest numbers for creators. Our dashboard shows creators what they'll realistically receive, never an inflated figure designed to flatter.

What we believe

Knowledge shared freely is one of the best things about the internet, and the people who share it deserve a bone — on the reader's terms, with a smile, and without surrendering anyone's privacy to do it.

The name is a joke on purpose. "Throw me a bone" is a lighthearted, humble ask — not a demand, not a subscription, not a guilt trip. That spirit runs through everything we build: it should feel good to give, and it should never feel bad to pass.
